Job Description:

The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) is the largest hunger relief organization in New England and among the largest food banks in the country. GBFB’s mission is to End Hunger Here in eastern Massachusetts, and our strategic objective is to provide at least ONE MEAL A DAY to everyone in need in eastern Massachusetts.

GBFB is looking for a Food Acquisition Associate to join our Food Acquisitions Team.  Reporting to the Senior Director of Food Acquisition, this role is responsible for providing logistical support for scheduling, receiving, data input and record keeping for all incoming product and agency enabled donations. The incumbent will provide support to specific acquisition donation programs with an emphasis on Retail Store, local and Feeding America donations. 

Responsibilities:

  • Compile all documentation, shipping receipts, bill of lading, etc. for local and national food donations.
  • Purchase order creation and item database maintenance.
  • Schedule incoming loads/work closely with the warehouse in the receiving log.
  • Provide necessary support to account for supplier invoice discrepancies.
  • Maintain donor accounts and/or provide customer service support in coordination with the Retail Donation Managers.
  • Communicate and collaborate with Warehouse to ensure product donations are received correctly and in a timely fashion, including identifying products needing special attention.
  • Generate and coordinate volunteer work orders for designated product by providing instruction for the volunteer department and operations to see the project executed properly.
  • Inspect incoming product as needed.
  • Respond to donor inquiries when appropriate.
  • Process enabled pounds submitted by agencies. Troubleshoot when discrepancies/problems emerge. 
  • Manage the enabled store/agency database in Salesforce. 
  • Represent GBFB at select Food Industry events including Food Shows as needed.
  • Work with all departments to provide excellent internal and external customer service, including donors and agencies.
  • Assist in other GBFB activities as assigned by Management.

Experience and Skills:

 

  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Have excellent time management, organization and task management skills.
  • Have the ability to work independently and as a team contributor.
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Goal and results oriented.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates Degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Some Food industry experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellence in computer, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Professional and customer service oriented.
  • Ability to travel, current valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle.
  • A commitment to ending domestic hunger.

 

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Ability to meet physical requirements related to helping other Team Members. This may include setting up tables and chairs, moving things and lifting boxes that weigh 25lbs.
  • Ability to sit up to 3 hours at a time
  • Ability to work within an open air/cubicle environment
