Job Description:

Purpose:

An integral member of The Greater Boston Food Bank’s (GBFB) Marketing and Communications team, the Senior Creative and Brand Manager is responsible for leading the strategy to develop and establish creative direction, as well as executing and managing the GBFB brand to brand standards across all channels. The individual in this position is passionate about creating great brand experiences online, in print and beyond. Reporting to the Vice President of Marketing Communications and Brand Integrity, the Senior Creative and Brand Manager will help to move the GBFB brand forward by developing strategies for brand-consistent designs to establish direction for a variety of donor, volunteer, corporate, member agency and internal campaigns and efforts.

This highly creative and deadline driven individual will lead conceptual development and translate those concepts into great designs by implementing strategies that articulate, influence and protect the GBFB brand through all channels and mediums. Such channels and mediums could include direct mail, various collateral pieces, digital assets for social media, advertising and e-communications; infographics, event graphics and collateral, presentation materials and more. This position will work collaboratively with members of Team GBFB across the organization including senior leaders, and will be responsible for strategic design development, design execution and project management. Additionally, this individual will direct and supervise design work done by the Digital Marketing Manager, contracted resources and part-time help to ensure alignment with GBFB’s brand guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads creative direction and design strategy concept development for all in-house design work while maintaining and consistently articulating a compelling brand position..Stewards the equity of the GBFB brand by managing brand guidelines and ensuring all work internal to the Marketing team and external to Marketing aligns with GBFB brand standards. Demonstrates thought leadership by pushing for innovation and brand alignment at the same time.
  • Develops design concepts and project manages full concept to approval for integrated communications for print and digital delivery including brochures, newsletters, reports, invitation packages, display and banner advertising, web pages, HTML email, animation, and other projects for the GBFB community.
  • Develops strategic design solutions that can be managed by other teams as appropriate (i.e. PowerPoint templates, promotional fliers and templates, email templates) and provides training for use of solutions and oversees execution.
  • Partners with Vice President of Marketing Communications and Brand Integrity  to establish design priorities and manage production schedules.
  • Provides direct supervision for contracted design services, part-time graphic design positions and graphic design/production vendors. Also, directly supervises graphic design work done by GBFB’s Digital Marketing Manager and Communications Manager.
  • Collaborates with members of the Marketing team and members of Team GBFB to determine project design needs, budget, copy content, photos, and other production considerations.
  • Works directly with senior leaders on various projects as needed.
  • On an annual basis, evaluates designs for key annual campaigns to make recommendations for adjustments and improvements.
  • Sources images and takes photos onsite when necessary, retouch and modify photos as needed.
  • Manages electronic design project files as well as library of printed design files for historical reference and resources.
  • Provides support for other organizational initiatives including attendance at events.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Lift or carry up to 25lbs
  • Ability to sit up to 3 hours at a time
  • Ability to work within an open air/cubicle environment

Skills:

  • Creative problem solving skills with ability to analyze information and evaluate results to develop the best design solutions and to solve design challenges.
  • Ability to create original design concepts within brand standards and to present and pitch them to others.
  • Ability to direct and supervise others with direct authority, along with strong project management skills.
  • Ability to train colleagues on use of design solutions and any associated technologies.
  • Ability to edit and produce audio and video for use on the GBFB website and digital properties highly desired.
  • Strong organizational skills, extreme attention to detail and commitment to producing excellent work within timeline and budget.
  • Experience and expertise in typography, visual hierarchy and color theory.
  • Expert knowledge of and skills with InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and other Adobe CS software as well as PowerPoint.
  • Good understanding of HTML, responsive design and current web technologies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in graphic design or related field.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of agency experience or as an in-house designer
  • Polished, positive, can-do attitude; flexible and willing to learn
  • Experience creating and managing an annual budget.
  • Strong project management experience, managing graphic design projects from strategic conceptualization and through the approval process to completion while working with and managing expectations of a variety of team members and stakeholders.
  • Experience managing vendors and directly supervising employees (part- or full-time) and contract work.
  • Proven experience managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to work within an organization emphasizing teamwork, collaboration, and excellence, working with team members at all levels.
  • Experience managing and maintaining strong vendor relationships
  • Capable of working well independently and as part of a collaborative team with a customer focus.
  • Cultural sensitivity, tact, diplomacy, and the ability to honor confidentiality.
  • Flexible and able to adjust quickly to changing priorities and conditions; cope effectively with complexity and change.
