GBFB is considered an essential response organization in times
of disaster. As such, Team Members are expected to report to GBFB
locations as required, after securing the safety of their families,
and may be asked to perform duties that are critical (but outside of
their regularly assigned duties) in times of disaster.
The part-time Volunteer Associate supports GBFB’s mission to end
hunger here by supervising volunteer shifts and contributing to the
volunteers’ positive experience. S/he welcomes volunteers, leads
training, and assists volunteers in inspecting, sorting and
repacking food products. As part of the Community Engagement Team,
the Volunteer Associate provides a high level of customer service in
responding to volunteer inquiries. S/he is part of a rotating
schedule to support the role of project supervisor(s) and front desk
receptionist during Saturday volunteer shifts.
Position Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Greet and welcome all volunteers.
Conduct volunteer orientation which includes an overview of
GBFB’s work, warehouse safety, safe-food handling, and project training.
Engage volunteers in product reclamation sorting; retail
rescue sorting; packaging meal boxes; and completing other
volunteer work orders as assigned.
Use clear communication to train volunteers on necessary tasks.
Assist with volunteer questions, contributing to an
informative and positive volunteer experience.
Ensure all safety protocols are followed relative to warehouse
operations, AIB compliance, and emergency preparedness.
Maintain a clean and safe working environment by managing
trash, washing, vacuuming, sweeping, or other cleaning processes.
Conduct shift closing and recap with all volunteers.
Communicate material-handling needs to supporting Warehouse
Associate and/or Warehouse Manager on Duty.
Serve as an active member of the Community Engagement team and
contribute to the development and refinement of processes and
Occasional data entry, as assigned.
Fulfill assignment as front desk receptionist during assigned shift(s).
Other duties as assigned.
Ability to sit up to 3 hours.
Ability to stand in a warehouse environment for up to 6 hours.
Ability to lift, up to 50 lbs.
The job is performed indoors in the Warehouse with exposure to
outside weather temperatures.
