Job Description:

The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) is the largest hunger relief organization in New England and among the largest food banks in the country. GBFB’s mission is to End Hunger Here in eastern Massachusetts.

Our team has an incredible opportunity for a motivated and adaptable individual to support the Development Team in the role of Director of Development, Diversified Portfolios/Individuals. As a strategist, consultant and implementer, the successful candidate will ensure streamlined activities within the team and just as importantly the department based on organizational Key Performance Indicators. Working across the Revenue team to ensure best relationship management assignments that will lead to a donor’s best and highest gift, the senior director works in partnership with team leads across the Revenue team to ensure alignment.

Functional areas within the team include, Major and Mid-Level Gifts, Planned Giving, a Sustainer Program, Donor Research and Analysis as well as appropriate assignment and engagement of 40,000 new donors, some of who will become mid/major/sustaining, individual donors. Additionally, work in partnership with the Vice President to support GBFB’s Board of Advisors and other leadership and donor groups.in the achievement of revenue goals.

Responsibilities

Portfolio Management: 40%

  • Manage a portfolio of donors with a minimum portfolio value of $1MM working with a baseline of donors giving a minimum of $25,000
  • Review and assign donors to relationship managers ensuring best opportunity for donor to make highest and best gift
  • Manage appropriate maintenance of donor and other constituent data in Salesforce
  • Assist the Vice President in working with the Board of Advisors to achieve revenue and engagement goals; Additionally, provide support to other revenue generating
  • Work with GBFB leadership team to ensure all donors are managed and stewarded at the same level

Organizational Planning and Development: 30%

  • Lead and participate in budget planning process
  • Lead and participate in performance management process
  • Lead and participate in strategic planning process - executing and revising plans as needed
  • Resolving team member performance and human resources issues as needed in a timely manner on an equitable basis
  • Lead and model organizational values and participate in appropriate groups, meetings, sessions as needed

Supervisory Management: 30%

  • Ensure team completes all required HR trainings and development opportunities, including annual engagement survey, pulse survey and others as needed
  • Attention to staff training and development around diversified portfolios ensuring that each team member is developing skills needed to execute on new model
  • Formal staff supervision and informal check ins as needed to advance work and promote a culture that reflects the values of the organization
  • Day to day supervision of team and participate in cross-functional team meetings as well as revenue team meetings. Supervise 4 members of the Development Team.
  • Ensure all staff issues are addressed properly, efficiently and judiciously, and keep track of progress until resolved
  • Coordinate execution of the performance management process ensuring that each member is evaluated on an annual basis and that informal feedback is a norm and delivered as needed

  • Demonstrated experience soliciting major gifts and engaging with donors
  • Impeccable managerial and interpersonal skills with strong aptitude for relationship building and management
  • Proven track record of effectively interacting with senior management
  • Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments
  • Strong project management and/or facilitation skills
  • Effective, versatile and action-oriented
  • Excellent communication skills, including both verbal and written. Ability to perform and communicate in a highly professional manner.

  • Curiosity, coupled with strong research/analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively in fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum 7-10 years of relevant development experience
  • Proven ability to secure 5 and 6-figure major and multi-year gifts
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Experience in project leadership/management or facilitation role
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook). Sales force and/or Raiser’s Edge database experience preferred
  • Ability to work from a remote environment and to supervise who work from remote environments as well
  • Ability and willingness to travel within Massachusetts
  • Appreciation of and commitment to GBFB’s mission and the ability to effectively communicate it.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit up to 3 hours at a time.
  • Ability to work within in an open air/cubicle environment.
  • Ability to work remotely.
